Diversity and inclusion

Our Approach

We believe that co-production thrives on the richness of diverse perspectives and experiences. Whether you are someone with lived or learned experience, a researcher, or a practitioner, your unique insights contribute to creating meaningful and impactful change. Our mission is to break down barriers and ensure equal partnership in all our projects and initiatives.

To achieve this, we actively work with a wide range of individuals and organisations, including universities, charities, NHS bodies, local authorities, housing associations, and grassroots groups. We strive to include those who are often marginalised or overlooked, amplifying their voices and ensuring they are integral to the decision-making process.

Our approach is grounded in our core values of being inclusive, kind, transparent, embracing of change, and reflective. We are committed to creating a culture of active anti-racism, where we go beyond diversity and inclusion to challenge and dismantle structural inequalities. We recognise that racism and other forms of discrimination persist in co-production spaces and society at large, and we are committed to taking tangible actions to address them. This includes interrogating our own practices, educating ourselves and others, and calling out inequities where they exist.

We actively encourage and support individuals who are underrepresented in co-production spaces—including, but not limited to, non-graduates, disabled, D/deaf, and neurodiverse people, LGBTQ+ people, and people from Black, Asian, and ethnic minority backgrounds—to get involved in our work. We are committed to fostering an environment where everyone feels welcome, valued, and empowered to contribute meaningfully.

At Co-Production Collective, diversity and inclusion are not just cornerstones of our vision but part of our active commitment to anti-discrimination. We aim to challenge bias and systemic racism within co-production, ensuring that diverse knowledge and experiences are not only recognised but celebrated as essential to impactful change.

We continuously question and improve our practices to advance equality, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility in everything we do. This includes building partnerships with organisations that share our values and listening to those most affected by discrimination to ensure they are at the heart of our decision-making processes.

We acknowledge that we have much to learn and improve upon, and we welcome open dialogue about how we can better live up to our values. If you have any feedback about your experiences with Co-Production Collective or suggestions on how we can advance our anti-racism and inclusivity efforts, please email us at coproduction@ucl.ac.uk.
