Our story so far

Originially known as the UCL Centre for Co-production we started out with funding from the Wellcome Trust supported by UCL. From there, our community and interest in our work grew, leading to our official launch as Co-Production Collective in 2020.

Back in 2017, a group got together with an idea: to co-create a centre to support co-production in health research, innovation and practice. Funded by the Wellcome Trust and supported by UCL, we were originally known as the UCL, Centre for Co-production.

From 2018 – 2020, we funded two phases of co-production pilot projects with teams working on research or innovation projects. Our aim at that time in running the pilots was to test and learn more about co-production in practice. Find out more about the pilot projects.

Hundreds of co-producers joined our community and got involved in these projects and other co-production opportunities, learning by co-producing together. In October 2020 we officially launched as Co-Production Collective! (If you're interested in finding out more about where we've come from, explore the blogs from our time as UCL Centre for Co-Production and read our Co-Production Pilots report)

Since then, we have expanded what we do to support and embed co-production in a wide range of sectors including universities, charities, funders, NHS bodies, local authorities, housing associations and grassroots groups.

We have also conducted our own research to fill in the gaps of co-production research and further its development. In 2022 we launched the results from our Value of Co-Production Research project which makes the case for co-production for individuals, organisations and society. We are currently running the Measuring Success in Co-Production: Learning by Doing Programme which aims to work out how to best evaluate (measure the benefits of) co-production.
