Could you be a Co-Pro Collective Community Area Pioneer?

October 5, 2021

If you were involved in the co-creation of this website last year, then you might remember discussing initial ideas of what an online community area might look like. We wanted a space to create more opportunities for our community to come together and connect with each other, as well as Co-Production Collective’s work.

Well, the time has come to get co-creating and make this a reality! We’re continuing to collaborate with our friends from Big Lemon (particularly Sam, Admiral of Ops, and Stef, the UX Guy) but need you – read on to find out how to get involved.

Community Area Pioneers

To get this work going, we’re looking for up to 10 co-producers to act as pioneers and help shape the initial stages. This isn’t starting from scratch but builds on our earlier website co-creation activity.

We’re looking for a smaller group initially as this role will require ongoing involvement over a number of weeks, both in co-creation sessions and further activity in your own time in between them.

Who can be a pioneer?

Anyone - whether you’re new to Co-Production Collective or an old-timer, a tech whizz or still figuring it all out! So long as you’re interested and able to commit to developing this space with us, then we’d love to hear from you.

It’s really important that we have a real mix of people with different skills, experience and perspectives co-creating the community area, so we can make sure it lives up to our core values and is inclusive of all our community members.

What will being a pioneer involve?

The Big Lemon team will be guiding us through the next stage of the co-creation (image from their brand new website)

Pioneers will co-create the initial structure and design of the community area.

We will take a guided tour together, interacting live with each other in the area, exploring what features are available.

There are lots of options for what the area could include, for example break out rooms for people to chat about specific topics, videos for people to access, notice boards to post activities.

Pioneers will need to be able to join two co-creation sessions:

  • Thursday 21 October, 10am-12pm
  • Thursday 9 December, 10am – 12pm

Outside of these sessions, you will also need to be able to commit a few hours to exploring the community area in your own time, testing features out and identifying areas for improvement.

This is a paid opportunity, with an initial fee of £150 for 8 hours work (2 x sessions plus 4 hours prep/follow-up). We can also offer support with any additional costs required to help you participate.

What if I can’t be a pioneer but still want to be involved?

There will be other opportunities to co-create this space with us, so anyone who is interested will be able to share their thoughts and feedback. Plus, as with all of Co-Production Collective’s activity, it will always be a work in progress! We’ll launch the space as soon as we can and continue to grow and develop it together as a community.

How do I express interest in becoming a pioneer?

If you’re able to join the sessions and commit the extra hours, then all you need to do is let us know! Please email us at coproduction@ucl.ac.uk with:

  • Your name
  • a little bit about yourself (especially if you're new to our community)
  • Whether you regularly, often, rarely or never use social media and/or online forums (there's no right or wrong answer to this, we're looking for people with a range of experience)
  • Any accessibility needs you'd like us to be aware of

We’re looking for up to 10 people to join us for this work. If we’re oversubscribed, then we’ll randomly select 10 of those who express an interest.

If you’d rather get in touch by phone, you can give Lizzie a ring on 07436 031029.

The deadline for submitting your interest is 12pm on Weds 13th Oct – we’ll be in touch as soon as possible after that to let you know the outcome.

As ever, please do get in touch with any questions or if you’d like more information. We can’t wait to get started!
