Sparks of inspiration: our November team update

November 6, 2022

November is going to be a busy one for the Collective team. In this update, we are reflecting on an action packed birthday month in October and taking a look at what is coming up over the next month. Read on to find out more!

Sparks of inspiration

Following an action-packed birthday month in October, there are lots of sparks of inspiration that we as a community can build on in November:

  • The launch of the findings from the ‘Value of Co-Production’ research project. Please use our findings and if you are involved in any networks. If you know of any newsletters or publications where we can promote it please let us know by emailing George on g.halfin@ucl.ac.uk
  • We started a conversation on ‘What it would mean for Co-Production Collective to be an anti-racist community’ and would love to hear your views on this. From your responses we hope to create another blog that helps move the conversation along and enables us to collectively work out the next steps together on our path to becoming an anti-racist community. Please email George on g.halfin@ucl.ac.uk with your thoughts and let her know if you would like to be involved in further conversations. Alternatively, if you prefer to give your views anonymously you can do so via this weblink.
  • We hosted a ‘Co-Producer Workshop’ which helped address some challenging questions for the Co-Producer programme. We are in the process of drafting a plan based on people’s feedback and Vanessa will be in touch with everyone who expressed an interest in getting involved further next week. If this is something you are interested in and would like to get involved you still can by emailing Vanessa at v.bennett@ucl.ac.uk
  • We held our first safeguarding policy co-creation session. From this session Richard is currently working on an update which he will share with the opportunity for you to meet him to give your thoughts - more on this soon.
  • A group of people from our community will be testing our Library of Resources in mid-November and we will be launching it at the end of November - keep a look out for this!

Co-production sessions in November

There is lots of co-production sessions going on this month:

  1. Niccola and Stan from Expert Focus will be delivering a module on co-production for students doing a Masters In Public Health at UCL.
  2. We will be providing co-production training sessions for students and researchers at London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, Teesside University, and University of Liverpool.
  3. This week we will be facilitating the third in a series of three workshops that explore what co-production means in the context of academic policy engagement for the Capabilities in Academic Policy Engagement (CAPE) team at UCL. This work aims to understand and to enhance academic-policy engagement in different geographical and policy contexts across England. You can read more about what CAPE do on the CAPE website.

If you are interested in being involved helping us deliver any of the co-production trainings mentioned in point 1 and point 2 of the above list please email coproduction@ucl.ac.uk by 5pm on Friday 11 November.

Co-pro Cuppa conversations

In this months’ Co-Pro Cuppa (our informal monthly chance to connect with friends, meet new people and chat about whatever you fancy over a cuppa!) we had wide ranging discussions covering everything from sociocracy to diversity (including Yesmin's Co-Pro story about potatoes!) and much more!

You can sign up to join us for our last Co-Pro Cuppa session of 2022 which will take place on Thursday 8 December on our events page. The 2023 dates are coming soon!
